At North Petherton Primary School we believe in the importance of equality and everybody having the same opportunities. This is modelled by our staff and taught through lessons and other experiences both discretely and explicitly. In order to promote this ethos at our school, we have chosen to use a resource that embeds equality, called ‘No Outsiders.’
The implementation of the "No Outsiders" program in our school represents an essential step in fostering a fully inclusive learning environment that reflects the diversity of modern British society. This program not only aligns with the values and statutory requirements expected of us as educators but also provides vital support in preparing children for life in a multicultural and inclusive world.
We expect our children to express their views with kindness and respect for others. Our key message is that we are all equal and we all belong, we are all insiders, there are no outsiders in our school. The Equality Act (2010) is British Law and protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society. It refers to following ‘protected characteristics.’
Supporting British Values: The "No Outsiders" program actively promotes the core British Values, as defined by Ofsted, including:
Mutual Respect and Tolerance for Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs: By embracing diversity and teaching about different family structures, cultures, and identities, we nurture respect and understanding among pupils.
Individual Liberty: Through this program, children are encouraged to express their own identities and value those of others.
Democracy, Rule of Law, and Equality: The program supports a culture of fairness and inclusion, ensuring that no one feels marginalized or excluded.
