Our Year 5 classes are Kingfisher Class, taught by Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Dowling, and Kestrel Class, taught by Mrs Huguerre.
In Year 5 at North Petherton, pupils continue to develop independence and confidence as they prepare for the final stage of Key Stage 2.
In English, children explore a range of high-quality texts and write across a variety of genres, including narrative, biography, and discussion writing. In mathematics, they deepen their understanding of fractions, decimals, percentages, and the four operations, applying these skills to more complex problem-solving.
Across the wider curriculum, pupils study topics such as the Vikings, Tudor England, and Ancient Greece, alongside geographical themes including mountains, oceans, and deserts. In science, they explore forces, materials, Earth and space, and living things and their habitats .
Creative subjects, computing, French, and physical education further support teamwork, resilience, and confidence, with swimming catch-up sessions available where needed to help children develop essential water-safety skills.
