Our Year 4 classes are Otter Class, taught by Mrs Lawrie, and Owl Class, taught by Mrs Hill.
In Year 4 at North Petherton, children continue to develop as confident, independent learners while strengthening their knowledge and skills across Key Stage 2.
In English, pupils explore a range of high-quality texts to support their writing of narratives, non-fiction, and extended responses. In mathematics, children build fluency in the four operations and develop secure knowledge of multiplication facts up to 12 × 12 in preparation for the statutory Multiplication Tables Check. This supports their confidence and accuracy when applying maths skills across the wider curriculum.
Across the wider curriculum, pupils study a range of historical periods, geographical themes, and scientific topics that deepen their understanding of the world around them. Learning is further enriched through computing, French, art, design and technology, music, and physical education.
Swimming is an important part of the Year 4 curriculum. Through lessons, children develop confidence in the water, learn essential life-saving skills, and improve their physical fitness and resilience. This experience supports both their wellbeing and personal development.
Personal development continues to be a key focus, helping children to build responsibility, teamwork skills, and confidence as they progress through Key Stage 2.
