Year 6

Leopard and Lion Class

Our Year 6 classes are Leopard Class, taught by Mrs Rigby, and Lion Class, taught by Mr White.

In Year 6 at North Petherton, pupils build independence, resilience, and confidence as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.

In English, children study a range of challenging texts and write across a variety of genres, including narrative, biography, and balanced arguments. In mathematics, they consolidate key skills in calculation, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, and algebra, applying these to problem-solving across the curriculum. Pupils also explore important topics such as World War II, evolution and inheritance, electricity, and population change.

Year 6 includes a number of memorable experiences that support personal development and teamwork. These include residential school camp, the end-of-year production, and Bikeability for selected pupils, helping children develop confidence, responsibility, and independence.

A strong focus is placed on preparing pupils for the move to Year 7, ensuring they leave primary school as capable, resilient learners ready for the next stage of their education.
