Year 3

Hare and Hedgehog Class

Our Year 3 classes are Hare Class, taught by Mr Trenchard, and Hedgehog Class, taught by Mrs Semken.

In Year 3 at North Petherton, children begin their Key Stage 2 journey, developing greater independence and a deeper understanding across the curriculum.

In English, pupils explore a range of high-quality texts, using these to write narratives, non-fiction pieces, and more structured responses. In mathematics, children build on their knowledge of number and calculation, while developing skills in fractions, measurement, and problem-solving.

The wider curriculum includes topics such as the Stone Age, the Romans, and Ancient Egypt, alongside geographical studies of volcanoes, settlements, and contrasting environments. In science, children explore areas including rocks, forces, light, and plants.

Pupils are also introduced to French, alongside continued learning in computing, art, design and technology, music, and physical education. These subjects support creativity, teamwork, and confidence.

Personal development remains a priority, helping children to build resilience, understand relationships, and take responsibility for themselves and their environment.
