Watch ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADnAGBWlzqE
After you have read the story, can you tell an adult the different things that aliens do when they come to Earth?
Today, I’d like you to write a diary entry pretending to be an alien from the story!
You might want to use this to help you…
Monday 13th July 2020
Dear Diary,
Today I went to planet Earth! It was SO exciting. You’ll never guess how many underpants I found…. 7!!!! First we fuelled our ships and flew down to Earth where we crash landed in ...
|
When you are writing your diary entries you might want to re-watch the video of the story to help you remember what the aliens did! |

SPACE
In our story it tells us that these aliens come from space in search of underpants! How much do you know about space? Today I’d like you to research some facts about Space and create an ‘All About Space’ poster.
|
Make sure you sit with an adult when you are searching on line.
Post your posters on Purple Mash so we can see all of the exciting facts you have found.

Yesterday we listened to ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ which is all about aliens!
Today I would like you to create your own alien. You will need to think of the key features your alien will have. You need to draw a picture of your alien and label all of the features you have decided to include. Make sure you include plenty of adjectives to clearly describe what it looks like.
|
Can you give your alien a name? |

Phonics.
Can you read these alien names? (See word doc below).
These alien names include sounds from Phase 3 and Phase 5. You might want to practise all of these sounds first – google Phase 3 and Phase 5 sound mats and images of these will appear.
|
Make sure you carefully think about the different sounds inside of words, you might want to add sound buttons or use highlighters to help you spot them. |

Oh no! Your alien ship crash landed and your alien is missing!!
You need to create a wanted poster to help find your alien. Make sure you include the adjectives you thought of yesterday to include lots of descriptions to help find them!
You might want to use my example below to help you…
WANTED
Have you seen an alien? He has one huge silver eye and two sharp white horns. He is funny but really shy so might get scared if you try and play with him…
REWARD: ______________
|
We have written a Wanted poster before so you can use this to help you.
You might want to draw a picture of your alien on your poster too. |

Using google, search for images of different planets.
Which planet is your favourite? Why? What features of the planets for you like the best? Why? Are all the planets the same? What is the same? What is different?
This afternoon I would like you to design your own planet. Your planet will be the home of your alien. Think carefully about what colour and details you could like to include as tomorrow we will be writing some simile sentence about our planets.
|
You might want to use a paper plate and decorate it or if you fancied a bigger project you could make your planet by using a balloon and using paper-mache. |

In school we did lots of learning about similes and how similes help to create imagery in own heads.
Today I would like you to create some simile sentences to describe your planet. You might want to think about your planet’s colour, texture, temperature, shape, size etc.. You might want to name your planet first rather than writing ‘my planet’.
Here are some examples…
Glitter Planet is as small as a golf ball.
Glitter Planet is as sparkly as stars.
Glitter Planet is round like the sun.
|
Remember a simile is where we compare an object to something else using the words like or as.

Summer Holiday Learn Something New Challenge
I can’t believe it’s nearly the Summer Holiday! To keep your busy over the Summer Holidays I would like you to think of 5 things you would like to learn/achieve or things you’d like to be better at.
For example
One of Miss Carter’s ideas is…
To learn how to plait her horse’s tail.
Can you think of 5 things you’d like to learn? Write them down on a piece of paper as a poster and put a box at the end of each one so you can tick them off when they are done!
Then decorate your poster and stick it to your fridge.
|
We are learning all of the time! These don’t have to be massive things like learning how to speak fluent Spanish but things you’d like to do and can actually do over the Summer Holidays.
If you keep your poster handy, you can show your new teachers next year what you have learnt. You might even want to bring in photographs and/or example of what you have done?
Here are some ideas…
- learn a new skill (sewing or cooking a particular food) - how to ride your book without stabilisers - walk 5k with your family - read 15 books Etc…

Wow, what a year it has been! I can’t believe we are now on our last day of Year One. Today I want you to think back on your year and create a word cloud. You might want to include the names of your friends in your class, your teachers or special moments from the year.
You can create a word cloud using this link https://wordart.com/ or you might want to draw a bumblebee and write the words inside. |
Get an adult to help you if you are working on line. |
