Letter to parents 25th June

Dear parent

We have been working hard to try and find a way to allow more children to come back to school before the end of term. You may already be aware that some primary schools are making plans to bring back year groups other than Yr F 1 & 6 before the end of term and are making capacity available by stopping or reducing provision for these year groups. I would like to explain our current position and why at the moment we aren’t permitted to admit more children.

  1. Government Guidance

The Government position is that at this point, they are allowing primary schools flexibility to welcome more children back, but only where:

  • they have already made provision available for children of critical workers, vulnerable children, and children in nursery, reception, Year 1 and Year 6 and have ensured as many as possible are able to attend (especially for those who would particularly benefit from being in school because of other disadvantage);
  • they can accommodate more children while still following the approaches set out in the protective measures guidance and their own risk assessment;
  • they do not require additional funding, staff or classrooms to do so.
  • Group size does not exceed 15

  1. Insurance

The advice we have had from the LA insurers is ‘to continue to follow Government advice, and that of Department for Education and not to veer from this as it could leave you open’.

  1.  Public Health Advice

The advice from Public Health is to follow the Guidance as follows:

Keep cohorts together where possible and:

  • ensure that children and young people are in the same small groups at all times each day, and different groups are not mixed during the day, or on subsequent days;
  • ensure that the same teacher(s) and other staff are assigned to each group and, as far as possible, these stay the same during the day and on subsequent days.

I hope you can see why, at the moment, it is not possible to invite children in Years 2,3, 4 & 5 back to school. All available teaching staff are currently teaching a group.

I will update you if and when the situation changes.

Best wishes

Gary Hobbs
