KS2 FRENCH HOME LEARNING – SUMMER 2 WEEK 5

Sunday 21st June was of course the day of the Summer Solstice and also, in France and in many other countries, “Make Music Day” (“la Fête de la Musique”). To celebrate this occasion (a little bit late…), I have put together a playlist of French songs that I would like you to listen to on YouTube. We listened to some of them last week with the Year 4 & 5 children who are in school, and they really liked them so I hope you will enjoy them too! FRENCH HOME LEARNING – Summer 2 Week 2 (08/06/20 – 12/06/20)

Bonjour! Comment ça va? Quel jour sommes-nous? Quel temps fait-il?

 

This week I would like you to continue exploring the topic of Food & Drink by chatting with someone at home about some French foods that you might have tried before. What were they? Did you have them at home or on a French holiday? What was your favourite?

Then I would like you to start keeping an alphabetical list of French words for Food & Drink. Write the letters of the alphabet one under another on a piece of A4 paper, and then write the French words that you already know (from what you learned in the videos last week or based on personal experience) next to their first letter.

Example:

Y: yaourt (yoghurt)

You may also choose to illustrate your vocabulary list with small drawings.

Please keep your alphabetical list in a safe place as you will be asked to add to it in the next couple of weeks.

FRENCH HOME LEARNING – Summer 2 Week 1 (01/06/20 – 05/06/20)

This half-term, I would like you to explore the topic of Food and Drink. You will also learn some useful phrases for buying snacks in a French-speaking country, and you will find out some cultural facts about food in France.

 

As a starting point, this week I would like you to log onto Espresso Primary. Click on Key Stage 2, then “Languages”, and select “French – On Mange”.

Watch the two videos, without looking at the script. What did you understand? What was the same as / different from a school lunch in the UK?

Watch the videos again, this time whilst reading the script. Did you pick up more information from reading the script?

Finally, design a menu for a typical French school lunch based on what you saw / heard in the videos.

This week in French I would like you to continue practising your singing and your choreography for “Pour Changer le Monde”.

Then, pick one line in the lyrics that matches one of your own ambitions for the future. Build a Lego object that represents that ambition and have your photograph taken with it (or draw yourself with your object). Finally write a caption in French about what you would like to be in the future.

This week in French I would like you to continue practising your counting to 100 and play some number games of your choice with someone at home, using your French numbers. Also practise saying the date and describing the weather.

I would also like you to listen to “Pour Changer le Monde” again on YouTube and this time, try and come up with a choreography (or some actions/ signing) that shows you understand the meaning of the lyrics.

Remember to video yourself when you’ve come up with some actions so you don’t forget. I would love everyone to perform their choreographies when we can.

This week in French I would like you to continue practising your counting to 100 and play some number games of your choice with someone at home, using your French numbers.

I would also like you to listen to the following French song on YouTube. Watch the original music video and the lyrics video. Make a list of the words you recognise from having learned them before and a list of new words that you can guess the meaning of because they sound/look like English words. Then try and work out what the lyrics might be about. When you feel confident, why not try and sing along?

I hope you are all well and that you manage to have a good Easter. 

This week, I would like you to practise your times tables in French – it will help you with your rapid recall of times tables in English.

Go through a different table each day.

If you have grown-ups or siblings at home who can count in French, why not challenge them to a game of French Bingo (you will need at least 3 players including yourself). Call out the numbers and see how much they understand.

During the Easter break, why not research French Easter traditions? What do French children do at Easter that is the same as or different from what we do in the UK? 

You could write a paragraph about what you have found out and illustrate it, or you could look up the French words for “Easter”, “chocolate”, “eggs”, “springtime”, etc… and create an illustrated word mat. 

If you have family in a country other than France, you could draw a picture / write a paragraph about how they celebrate Easter over there. What is Easter called in other languages?

Task: FRENCH WORDSEARCH. On a piece of A4 plain paper, mark out a 20cmx20cm grid where each box is 1cm x 1cm (use a ruler). This will give you a Wordsearch template. Pick ONE vocabulary topic from our French lessons (examples: months, colours, pets, numbers, etc.) and write that list of words underneath your grid. You can check spellings on Google Translate. Then fill in the boxes with the words from your list (going in any direction) and use random letters for the empty boxes. When your Wordsearch is created, challenge someone in your house to find all your words, and teach them the meaning and pronunciation of the words as they find them. Have fun!
